Inventory Projection
Inventory projection is a forward-looking view of expected inventory levels by SKU and location over a defined planning horizon, combining current on-hand positions with expected inbound supply (in-transit shipments and open POs) and expected outbound demand (committed orders and forecast).
Why It Matters
Most inventory systems show a snapshot of current positions. Inventory projection shows what positions will look like tomorrow, next week, and in two weeks. This forward view is what enables proactive decision-making: if the projection shows a stockout in 9 days, there is still time to expedite, transfer from another facility, or adjust the production schedule.
The FourKites Perspective
The FourKites Inventory Twin generates configurable projections by combining four data sources: current positions (ERP/WMS), in-transit supply with ML-predicted ETAs (Shipment Twin), open PO quantities with supplier reliability adjustments (Order Twin and Graph), and committed outbound demand (Order Twin). The projection updates continuously as any input changes.
