Spotter Management
Spotter management is the coordination of yard jockeys (spotters) who move trailers between yard spots, dock doors, and staging areas within a facility, including task assignment, routing, priority management, and productivity tracking.
Why It Matters
Manual spotter dispatch uses radio and whiteboards. Tasks are assigned verbally, priorities are unclear, and there is no visibility into which trailers need to move or which spotters are available. The result: 20-30% of spotter time is wasted on empty moves, wrong trailer pickups, and task confusion.
The FourKites Perspective
FourKites Dynamic Yard automates spotter task creation and assignment via mobile app. When AutoGate checks in a trailer, a spotter task is auto-created to move it to the assigned spot or dock. When a dock completes processing, a task is created to pull the trailer and stage the next one. The Facility Twin tracks spotter productivity and task completion in real time.
