Bayer's Crop Science division sought to improve visibility across products for crop protection, pest control and plant-biotech seeds. Its existing TMS did not span all transport modes, limiting visibility into air and ocean shipments, and the company faced siloed data, manual shipment booking, and fragmented partner connectivity. Bayer wanted a visibility solution that could integrate with its TMS and deliver secure, real-time tracking on outbound shipments to customers, while scaling across a global business with a large carrier network and proven TMS integrations.
Bayer's Mexico division selected FourKites for a 2019 pilot, citing proven global multimodal tracking and integrations. Customer satisfaction quickly rose thanks to more accurate ETAs and proactive status communication, and improved carrier communication lifted on-time delivery — prompting a global rollout. Bayer now uses FourKites across every region and all modes (rail, ocean, truckload, LTL, air, last mile), tracking from supplier to plant to distribution center to customer, including some returns. It uses Dynamic Ocean® for a single pane of glass to organize bookings, transportation and planning, plus real-time geolocation and geofencing for last-mile use cases.
With FourKites, Bayer achieved 50% improved shipment visibility globally and 44% reduced delivery inquiry lead times, alongside real-time geolocation, increased on-time delivery, data-driven carrier conversations, improved transportation and warehouse performance, reduced disruption and detention, increased partner connectivity, and higher employee job satisfaction.
