The Challenge

Trane Technologies runs FourKites Appointment Manager and Dynamic Yard at select sites. At two facilities using Dynamic Yard, the team discovered they were incurring significant dwell charges they hadn't been tracking. Extended trailer turnaround times were driving a steep rise in detention charges — a cost the logistics team set out to monitor and mitigate through a dedicated productivity project.

Our Solution

Trane Technologies leaned into Dynamic Yard's analytics and the Door Performance dashboard to gain proactive visibility into potential dwell and detention issues. The team paired the platform data with an on-site visit and instituted weekly meetings with operational reviews, building a repeatable, data-driven approach to spotting and resolving turnaround bottlenecks before they translated into charges.

The Result

By proactively using yard analytics, conducting on-site reviews, and holding weekly operational meetings, Trane Technologies eliminated almost all of its $2.69M in detention costs versus the prior year — a 98.6% reduction across the two sites. The strategies and lessons learned were then applied to additional sites across the network.

While there are a lot of benefits — including better customer service — Trane saw payback from this implementation in just 3 months based on reducing detention fees alone.
