The Challenge

Barilla, a family business founded in 1877 and the world leader in pasta production, runs an intricate logistics operation with 30 production sites and moves more than 2,000 loads weekly from Italy to over 120 countries via road and ocean. Before FourKites, the team could only react to issues once it was too late, and managing ocean shipments was costly and time-consuming because staff had to manually check carrier locations. Barilla wanted real-time insight across the full shipment lifecycle, regardless of mode, to get products to customers effectively and with the best service.

Our Solution

Since 2021, FourKites has fed hundreds of real-time data points into Barilla's control tower, giving an end-to-end view and using patented AI to surface accurate, early exception alerts so teams can prioritize by impact. The platform automatically sends ETAs with delay updates to all partners and flags incorrect planned transit times to keep activities on schedule. Barilla extended the deployment from over-the-road into ocean visibility — about 10% of its market — eliminating manual carrier check-ins. The result is a seamless self-service experience that breaks down silos between systems and teams.

The Result

FourKites reduced time spent manually interacting with 3PLs and suppliers, letting Barilla work faster and smarter. Accurate predicted arrival times let customers confidently plan operations around scheduled deliveries, and reacting before issues escalate saves time while reducing transportation costs and fines — improving carrier and customer relationships. Visibility is now a must-have, required of all partners including in new carrier tenders.
